Patricia Barasch Receives Professional Achievement Award
From New Jersey Bar Association
Patricia
Ann Barasch has been selected to receive the Professional
Achievement award from the Young Lawyers Division of
the New Jersey State Bar Association.
This is one of four awards given by the
Young Lawyers Division each year. This award is presented
to a young lawyer who has received professional recognition
through publications, excellence in a particular area
of law, a significant verdict or law changing appellate
decision, or other such professional achievements.
The award reflects Ms. Barasch's work
as counsel for the National
Employment Lawyers Association New Jersey. She persuaded
the United States District Court to issue the first
definitive interpretation of the 1996 Rules governing
New Jersey lawyers' ex parte contacts with current and
former employees of defendant corporations.
She has also recently acted as counsel
in two major trial victories, including: the 1999 case
of Wiler v. PSE&G
(a $550,000) verdict; and the 1998 case of Seiden
v. Harrah's Casino Hotel, making ground-breaking
law on behalf of handicapped employees.
Ms. Barasch is a member of the New Jersey
and Pennsylvania bars, the United States District Court,
District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals
for the Third Circuit, and the United States District
Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She
graduated from Cornell Law School in 1993 and is a 1987
graduate of Wesleyan University.
The award to Ms. Barasch was presented
at the New Jersey State Bar Convention on Friday, May
12, 2000 at the Sheraton Hotel in Atlantic City, New
Jersey.
Ms. Barasch is a partner in the law firm
Schall & Barasch, LLC located in Moorestown,
New Jersey. The firm specializes in the representation
of employees who have been unfairly treated or victimized
by discrimination at work. Ms. Barasch resides in Mt.
Laurel with her husband Paul Furtaw.
